(NEWSnet) – Taramind, a spice native to Africa, India and the Mideast, has taken over worldwide food trends to the point that McCormick has declared it the 2024 Flavor of the Year.

McCormick made the announcement Wednesday in the Flavor Forecast 24th Edition. The report is its annual look at culinary trends, considering trends “to discover the tastes of tomorrow.”

Taramind is a pod-shaped fruit that grows on a hardwood tree in tropical regions, the company explained. It has been a popular ingredient for centuries for savory-sweet dishes among North African, Indian, Thai and Filipino cuisines. But it’s now gaining interest among Mexican and other cultures.

Some of the suggested recipes on the McCormick site include Mexican Christmas punch featuring taramind among its spices, steak & eggs drizzled with a taramind paste steak sauce, and sauce for tofu skewers.

As part of the promotion, taramind-infused selections will be on the menu starting in February at Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer locations.
